'NIGHTINGALE' is an improvisation/interpretation of a melody or respectively classical form named 'Rokudan' stemming from traditional Japanese music, originally created by the artist 'Kengyo Yatsuhashi' in the seventeenth century. The predominant instrument to perform this tune was the 'Koto'. Many musicians and projects have already designated a lot of work to this theme, among others Ravi Shankar, Keiko Matsuo and her ensemble, Sharp Five and many others. The melody was also used in the famous computer game 'Civilization V' by Sid Meier.

The present version was musically noted and performed by the great singer and pianist Sabine Kupilik and put to the disposal of SPA SOUND DESIGNER. Didier Hampl adapted her work as a SPA.AMBIENT concert. In order to make this piece accessible to a broader public the classical form of the 'Rokudan' has been simplified, especially in its rhythmical form. A hearty 'thank you' should also be expressed to the multi- instrumentalist Jochen Hampl, who, with his Ambient bass lines, guitars and wonderful and sensitive improvisations in the second part of the concert, has given 'NIGHTINGALE' the intensive and emotional depths it deserves.

If you listen to 'NIGHTINGALE' on your computer it is recommended to use headphones, as we have given uttermost care and a lot of work to produce wonderful stereo- scenes and extraordinary musical images.
